Truth Vitality Lux Renew with LED and Ultrasound

Truth Vitality Lux Renew is a hand-held, FDA-cleared anti-aging device designed to diminish wrinkles and fight acne. Safe and easy to use at home, Lux Renew combines skin-plumping ultrasound technology with wrinkle-repairing red LED and blue LED light therapy for control of breakouts and acne. This unique 3-in-1 device will improve the skin’s natural collagen, minimize fine lines, reduce redness and broken veins, and destroy pore-clogging bacteria.

Created in direct response to feedback from the Truth In Aging community, Lux Renew’s effectiveness is backed by a successful 12-week clinical trial, as well as TIA product reviews from women just like you. It’s also the only multi-functional device equipped with both ultrasound and LED technology that’s been cleared by the FDA. You’ll see immediate results — so give it a try and order now! Used with a topical gel or serum, Truth Vitality Lux Renew works painlessly and effectively on both the face and neck, and is suitable for all skin types. The red LED light and ultrasonic waves firm and smooth the skin — leveling wrinkles and evening out skin tone — while the blue LED wavelengths penetrate the pores to clear blemishes and prevent breakouts. Lux Renew is safe, effective, and easy to use, delivering dermatologist-grade results from the comfort of your own home. And it’s the only device of its kind that’s cleared by the FDA!

Ultrasound: There are five ultrasound settings. As the ultrasound waves pass from the treatment head into the skin, they prompt the vibration of the surrounding tissues, particularly those that contain collagen (note: you will not feel any vibration or tingling). Ultrasound improves the skin’s elasticity and firmness.

Red LED Light: Red light wavelengths improve the skin’s barrier function and enhance the skin’s ability to generate new collagen, helping to reduce wrinkles, rosacea, and broken veins. By targeting water layers on elastin, facial wrinkle levels can be significantly reduced.

Blue LED Light: Blue light wavelengths penetrate the skin and produce singlet oxygen, which destroys acne-causing bacteria.

This is the first product review I have ever written. I purchased this device years ago before it was FDA approved and it was much less expensive, but I didn't use it faithfully. I'm 57 now and have really started noticing sagging and fine lines coming on like crazy, so on Oct 1, I pulled out my Ultra Renew and decided to use it faithfully, to see if it would help. I use it 4-5 days a week, using both the Ultrasound and red LED functions. (takes less than half an hour).

WOW!!! My overall face seems to look firmer, more chiseled at the cheekbone area. The area around my mouth seems slightly plumped...especially my lips! I'm not sure which function is responsible, or if it is the combination of both??? I'm afraid to stop using one to find out!

When I'm in a hurry, I just use the red LED function for 5 minutes around my mouth and lower jaw. This has to be what's plumping my lips! Now that I know that this device is improving my skin, it's no longer a chore to spend less than half an hour a day. I just turn on my music and treat it like some spa time! I highly recommend this device. Just have to be diligent in using it, and it takes about 3 months to see results.

I have been using the Lux Renew with the Truth Vitality Treatment Gel since September and am happy with it!

My main concerns are sagging, nasolabial folds and marionette lines so I committed to using the Lux Renew before these issues worsen. I use the ultrasound mode the most, always at the highest setting. I use the Lux Renew 4 to 5 times a day, following the manual instructions, on my entire face and sometimes on the upper part of my neck (below the jawline and chin) which has shown signs of sagging. I use very little Treatment Gel and just mist the area with water and that does the trick. Since I do my whole face and sometimes the neck as well, one session lasts at least an hour. That's a long time but while watching TV, it's actually relaxing, even therapeutic. I did not see instant results but one day, my hubby complimented me and that's when I knew the Lux Renew is helping. I feel tightness and notice a more lifted look. When I have a new pimple, I have used the blue LED mode once or twice and can confirm that it works. Since I also started using the Truth Vitality copper peptide on my scalp, I used the red light mode on my scalp (maybe once or twice a week) and on my neck where I see some wrinkling. I don't know yet how effective it will be for my neck area but I will continue using it. I'm realistic with my expectations about the Lux Renew and am committed to using it.

I want to thank the TIA Customer Service folks who have been patient when I started using the Lux Renew (and other Truth Vitality products). I always get a prompt helpful responses to my questions, thank you! When my Lux Renew was "acting up," turning off too many times while in use, I asked the TIA Customer Service for assistance and learned that I should not have been leaving the power cord attached to the Lux Renew when I'm not using it. TIA quickly sent me a new power cord free of charge! I was initially concerned about not being able to talk to a live staff with my questions but each time I had emailed them with questions, I always got a response the next day. TIA has excellent customer care, thank you!

You cannot cheat time forever but using Lux Renew sure helps!

I have been using this device for greater than 6 months now and feel that its time to give a fair review. I am a huge fan of this device. I LOVE the ultrasound. My marionette lines have decreased and did so within the 1st week of treatment. I have also begun to use the US mode over my lip lines (smokers lines they're sometimes called) and they have also reduced noticeably! I am 42. Im telling you it works. Buy it!!
My only complaint is that the instructions/comments here say that its safe to use the US mode over your neck but the instruction manual states not to use over carotid and laryngeal and pharyngeal muscles. A little diagram in the book on how to use safely on the neck would be helpful.

This is such a wonderful device! I already left review, but I want to add once again that I am thrilled. In addition to regular use, I began to use it as a ultrasonic infuser for my serums and creams (like JeNu, which I don't have). I put my serum or cream, just drop or two on device, then turn on ultrasound mode and than use for one minute on each area of my face. I noticed that it makes my favorite skincare brands work better & faster. It increase absorption and I do not spend unnecessarily too much of expensive serums. Besides, serum and cream are completely absorbed by certain parts of the face (where I want them), rather than absorbed by the skin of my fingers.

Wanted to update you, Marta & the TIA community--I've taken yet ANOTHER page out of your (Marta!) "DIY" playbook...I've started adding ADSM Beverly Hills Glycolic Acid and/or Ultra Firming Cream (mostly BOTH) TO the Vitality Gel when using the RED/BLUE LED functions. LOVE the Gel, but wanted even MORE "umph", 'plumping', and skin restoration while using+after Vitality Lux Renew sessions.

What can I say? The ALREADY amazing device seems to be working even better for keeping my forehead expression lines (my worst), "11" lines, and neck lines at bay. Thank you for introducing this new line (ADSM Beverly Hills) to the TIA store.

I DO have one question! The Baby Quasar PLUS still sells like hotcakes in other skin care circles. PRICE ASIDE, Marta do you have any opinion on how this device might measure up to YOUR Truth Vitality Lux Renew (ALSO FDA-APPROVED+PATENTED like the Baby Quasar, the original one of which has been around a while)? Not looking to spend the $$, but am curious as it seems to pop up in many celebrities' skin care regimens....Thank you!!

    Hi Sandra
The buzzing sound you hear is very faint and simply the motor of the device going. The device only contains blue and red LED -- the third feature is ultrasound and does not light up the LED panel. Shoot us an email at customerservice@truthinaging.com so we can send some tips and suggestions on how you can get the most out of your device to treat your concerns!

I bought Truth Vitality Lux Renew 9 months ago and that's my opinion about it. I think nothing else can achieve the results I got on my skin in the last 9 months but red light therapy. It's the best investment one can make. It's something basic and even I think if you combine it with the cheapest skin care products it will give you far better results than just the most expensive ones on their own.
I can say most of the products sold here are really really good and what will work for you depends on many factors. I've tried 7-8 different brands and my own sympathies go to Sciote products. But I believe that any decent skin care product /even if it's not among the ones sold here/ combined with Truth Vitality Lux Renew would give you results you wouldn't believe. At any age.
I've tried using it for 30 minutes every day and I think it does even better. I just can feel how some little parts on my skin get alive and they just want more of that red light. An indispensable skin care product full stop

Hi Sarah, yes it can be used on thinning hair. I think red LED has the best effects, you can also try ultrasound on any setting. many estheticians use LED and ultrasound on clients that have had fillers. Both technologies work by emitting very subtle waves that vibrate the water around the skin cell. There is no heat emitted and no impact on artificial fillers.

    Hi Marta,

I have bought the device and I have some questions I thought I'd ask here since others may have the same.

I read a comment about the device promoting hair growth, is that true for those experiencing balding? And which setting does this?

Is this product ok to use with fillers such as radiesse and juvaderm? Another person already asked this question but I'm curious if you can elaborate why you don't think it's an issue.

    Thanks!

    Hi Mel
When using the device in ultrasonic mode, it's important to keep the device flush against skin and moving in an upward direction. You can use LED in any direction you'd like.

    I hope this helps!

Hi Pete, ultrasound and LED work at a deeper level than a topical serum. For example, ultrasound waves cause a rapid oscillation of cell tissue and fluid, which may stimulate an intracellular cascade resulting in increased fibroblastic activity and collagen formation. There is more on how ultrasound works here: https://www.truthinaging.com/review/ultrasonic-how-it-works

And more on how LED works here:

Hi Alex, you could if you have the time and inclination. There may be a law of diminishing returns though - by which I mean I don't know if doubling up sessions, doubles results. But if you try it, let us know.

As for Tina's question, it can be used on the body but it was created to be used on the face and neck/decollete. The ultrasound is 3Mhz for the face (1Mhz would typically be for the body). I am not sure what you would hoping to achieve, perhaps some firming, but this is definitely not a slimming tool.

I have lost a lot of weight and have lose skin on my face, yet also areas such as belly, upper thighs, the behind and breast area. I use it for about two, three weeks and I love it! Ultrasound really strengthens contours of the face and I am thrilled by effect of blue light. I have annoying pimples before and during period, so I fought them with retinol cream, but as the sun is getting stronger I want to throw out retinol from my daily routine during the summer, so the blue light is salvation for me. Just one treatment and my face was clear next day. Ultrasound works well against my bags under the eyes and I noticed the lifting of the upper-lids. Also treatment is very pleasant, I do not feel any pain, just relaxing light massage. Unfortunately I do not have time to treat individual zones for more than two minutes, but this amount of time still works for me. I am using it 3 times per week.

Hi Barbara, I would definitely encourage you to continue. Three weeks and only one of the functionalities is not much to judge results on. You should use both LED and ultrasound on the face and neck where needed, 3-4 times a week. Some people see results very soon, for others it will take several months. The results from our clinical trials, which are really great, are after 12 weeks - a realistic timeframe to see an impact on signs of aging that have been appearing over decades.

I am possible one of the few (or maybe only) reviewers that does not love the Lux Renew. So I have some questions. My overall issue is skin that is less than tight in the neck area. Is the LED used for that area? Have not yet used the LED.

Secondly, how long does one have to use the device before any kind of changed are noted? I used it pretty regularly for about 3 weeks; but didn't notice anything and I've become discouraged.

Any advice would be appreciated. I hate that I spent the money and I'm not using the device.

Question. I have moderate skin laxity on my face. I have consulted with a Nurse for Ultherapy. Does this have as good results? It is obviously, a lot cheaper! If I go with the Ultherapy would this device be safe to use for prevention and up-keep? May I use on other parts of the body, such as arms and above knees? Or is there a larger device for the rest of the body? Thanks for your help :)

This is an impressive anti-aging product. I saw an immediate improvement after my first treatment. The area around the eyes and temple is a particular challenge because of the delicate skin, but the Lux Renew had a positive result which was so surprising as it was immediate. The rest of the face also plumped up. I am delighted.

    Thank you.

    Marta,
This is a new facial concept and costly yet reviews are very favorable. This is a question since no place to ask. If I want to minimize deep forehead (motion lines), will this product work to minimize these? What product is it folks are talking about that is water soluable to use in conjunction with it. I also have darkened skin spots due to Estrogen replacement. Read above where someone asked if it would make this worse but didn't see an answer. Please clarify how much of results for creases and finer wrinkles I can expect and product to use with it. This is a very good site.
Thank you for your time and look forward to your reply.

I wanted to give the Truth Vitality Lux Renew a good long trial before I submitted this review! And, I am hooked!! I took a "page" out of one of Marta's comments and have added the Sevani Rose Hyaluronic Age Defying Tonique with the Red LED function.

Initially, I started using the Lux Renew when I was diagnosed with four fused (carpal) bones in my right (dominant) hand. The ultrasound function with the Gel was a Godsend for the pain.

I will admit, that I had to work myself up to adding 10 to 30 minutes to my daily schedule to get the maximum use (FOR ME!) out of the Lux Renew--on my face and the outer part of my eyes. I started with 10 minutes on the Red LED, concentrating on my forehead (rife with DEEP crevices/expression lines). I am also training myself NOT to crease my forehead when I start really getting into a conversation. In my career, I've also worked as a lobbyist in D.C. and been a therapist (as a pain management physician), both of which mandate acute attention to detail and the conversation, more LISTENING than speaking, and quick, animated responses. So, I earned my forehead creases and expression lines! I also have had very deep naso-labial lines since I was five years old; these have only deepened with age. Lastly, despite my wonderful experience with Mito-Q, I am still battling (lessening) lines on my lower neck and around my lips.

Because of several medical issues, I am not a candidate for Botox (PRP would be my only option to medically treat my forehead expression lines outside my home). I am not a big fan of either, but have no issues with those who choose to go those routes. But, when I discovered the Lux Renew and started using it faithfully EVERY day, I've made SIGNIFICANT inroads into a smoother forehead (something I NEVER thought would change!) and an overall smoother face.

In the morning, I turn on the last evening's 15-20 minute podcast of the evening news and try to maintain a 15- minute Red LED session before I start the day. I've found that when I arrive home, that after washing and toning my face, a great way to unwind and feel re-freshed is to use the Red LED for at least another 10-15 minutes. As with everything else, working these two sessions into my day (with multi-tasking) has actually NOT bitten into my time! And I am DEFINITELY seeing a difference! So far, I've experienced no redness, irritation, or other untoward effects. Here's to a GREAT home, FDA-approved device that has made an enormous difference; adding the Sevani Rose Hyaluronic Age Defying Tonique has made just that much more of a difference!

Wished I had taken a before and after picture for this very early "preview" but I felt I had to write something for my initial impression - after 24 hours.

Treated forehead with special emphasis "11" line area with red led then switched to ultra sound mode for about 7 minutes total. I did not get the recommended gel yet ( ordered) but used a drugstore water / mineral oil based cream with supposed collagen ingredients.

You know that "puffiness" between the two lines? Well the next day I looked in the mirror and it had just about flattened out. The left line was much improved, not as deep set and returned to a fine line and the right line had slightly faded.

After my 3rd treatment ( three treatments in two days) The 3 horizontal lines on my forehead faded to a noticeable result . Working well for me. I use the highest setting for the U/S mode and do pause at times at targeted spots for up to 45 seconds. At times the head of the device does get a little warm ( highest setting) if held there too long but that's fine with me I just slowly move to another area.

I've decided to add a retinol containing product this evening and then use red led light over it. I'll update another time as I am also interested to see if this will help with mild rosacea on face though the device is not intended for that purpose.

I will admit I am a beauty product junkie. I'm 60 years old, but people say I look to be in my forties. I have always tried to take care of myself and have tried many products in my quest to preserve or improve my looks. However, I also try to be frugal with my choices. I have, in the past, chosen some "promising" products that ended up being "duds" and a waste of money, even some that received good reviews.(So far I've not been disappointed with any purchases from this site.)
In all fairness, I will add that maybe not all products work the same for every one, as we are all different in one way or another. Moving right along.... Truth Vitality Lux Renew is one product with which I am NOT disappointed! After only three uses I am already noticing a firmness and plumpness to my skin that was not there before, in spite on my use of other very good serums and creams.

The only drawback, I would say, for me, personally, is I really dislike wearing the goggles because they cloud my vision and kind of bother my eyes. However, I know they are essential to prevent damage to my vision, so I will definitely wear them. While they are not overwhelmingly too big, I find I have to readjust them upward a little, re-positioning the lower edge just under my lower lashes in order to treat my under eye wrinkles/bags, an area which is highlighted in the instruction book as an area to be treated with the LED lights. But if the goggles are centered over my eyes, that area is not reachable. So, just a little fiddling around but...I will gladly do so, because after just one treatment I noticed that under eye area being a little less saggy. So I'm thinking how much better it will be months from now!

I'm hoping the LED lights will also plump and tighten my neck and jawline as well. The ultrasound mode cannot be used on the front of the neck because of possible damage to the larynx and pharynx ? (I've ask for more detailed information on the science of this in comments section for this product). However, the ultrasound can be used just below the chin and along the jawline, and I think, along the sides of the neck below the ears? I would like more info on that too.

Overall, I'm giving it five stars because it's easy to use, (with exception of the goggles having to be fiddled with), and there is almost immediate gratification with noticeable plumpness and firmness after only one treatment and it gets better with each treatment. Hopefully, that will continue. So far, I am very impressed. And back to being frugal....I got this at a huge discount when Marta was offering 56% off on her birthday, (Happy Birthday, Marta!), plus I had enough points to subtract another $15. Cha-ching! Thank you, Marta, for having such great products you have personally reviewed and for offering great discounts all the time!

I have a question on the length of time to use the LED red light. On page 9 of the instruction manual it says "a single session takes 15-19 minutes" but on page 10 it says if you are treating multiple areas then each area must be exposed for 19 minutes. That's an awfully long time if I do each eye area, forehead and cheeks. Can you advise?

I am still on my Ultra Renew Plus device. Over the last two years I have used it regularly, and I am very happy with the result. I enjoy the "massage"-time app. 3 times a week, and during the last year (I am 55) I have received several comments on the radiance and "youth"-impression of my facial skin. The skin looks healthy, with some lines, but they are soft and not very deep. I have no doubt that the Ultra Renew should have most of the credit for that.

I am very tempted to invest in the Lux-edition, and definitely will, when my Plus-device is a little more "worn-out".

A happy and whole-heartedly recommendation from me!

This device, along with the Truth Vitality treatment gel is WONDERFUL!! I have the prior version of the device and know that every time I use it, my face and neck will look better afterwards. It's easy to use. If you're on the fence trying to decide if it's worth it - it is. You'll never regret your decision to get the LED+Ultrasound. I also recommend the treatment gel because it works perfectly with the lux renew and as a mask by itself.

Hi Alex, retin A can make you more sensitive to light, so you should do a patch test. The best thing would be avoid using LED on your skin right after applying retin A. For example you could use your retinol cream at night and LED in the morning. It sounds as if you are already using an RF device with retinols and not having a problem. Also if you want intersperse your LED/ultrasound sessions with RF that would be fine.

    Hi Martha & TIA Team,

Absolutely love & appreciate your website and amazing range of products. Thank you for setting such high standards and for inspiring us all to have an informed and health-centred approach to aging gracefully. Quick question from me: Can I use this device whilst also on a RETIN A beauty regimen? And...is it possible to combine Radio Frequency, ultrasound & LED (the TIA Truth Vitality Lux Renew with LED and Ultrasound ) whilst using a daily RETIN A cream (at night only). Just wondering if all of these treatments are compatible? I thank you in advance for your quick response.

I've been using my lux renew for about 2 weeks now and thought I'd leave a preliminary review and report back in a couple of months when it's full effects hopefully kick in.
I've been using the red LED most days and the ultrasound every other day. I've already started noticing a tightening around my forehead and mouth/nose area. It was most noticeable whilst walking outside on a sunny day without my sunglasses; my forehead felt significantly tighter than it normally would whilst squinting.
I'm only 26 but I have a very computer-heavy career which tends to make me look 'tired' and this tool is really making me look brighter and fresher- I've even had people commenting on how I don't look 'so exhausted' anymore.
It takes dedication but I'd like to avoid sticking needles in to my face for as long as possible and the lux renew seems like a good way to accomplish this.
The price is also really reasonable given that it provides you with three tools in one.

I just got my Lux Renew w LED and Ultrasound unit and am excited to start using it. I had the opportunity to undergo 1 session of laser treatment and 4 sessions of ultratherapy 2 weeks ago. The combination of LED and ultrasound in one device is just too good to be true. I will posting another review in a couple of weeks after I try my new device.

Hello Melody. Your comment was not published as it compared this device to Ultherapy and thermal ultrasound. Lux Renew does not work thermally. I have addressed this question in comments, responses to questions and in articles. You may find this article helpful as it explains the differences.

I commented earlier about evidence that these devices cause long term damage and I noticed it wasn't approved. Why? That seems suspicious. If you stand by the safety and long term effects of this product you should be able to back it up.

Hi Benjamin, that's a good question. I had to go off and do some thinking about this. Human skin is 2mm-3mm and varies on the body - 0.5mm for eyelids and closer to 3mm on the back. The face is about 1.5mm - although this varies by genetics, age and sex. Men's skin is about 25% thicker than women's (again it will vary as all aging skin becomes thinner - even men's). But say your skin is between 1.5mm and 2mm. Ultrasound on this machine penetrates to about 2mm. So I'd say it should work on men's skin

Basically all of the reviews I've read on the truth vitality lux renew have been from female users; I was wondering, given that men tend to have thicker skin, would it have the same/similar effects, or is it purely for female use?

Hi Michele, the problem is that there is absolutely no research to back up green light and hyperpigmentation and when we tried it on an earlier device we got very little anecdotal evidence back from users. So we're passing on green light for now.

Hi Marta this looks good but I was wondering if green light would work better for pigmentation? If so do you have any plans for a device to address this issue? I know you state anything water based with water as the 1st ingredient but that's VERY difficult to find - trust me, I've done countless searches on line.

I was looking into organic 100% Aloe Gel but wasn't sure of the water content - would it conduct appropriately??

    Hi Sarah
The instruction manual gives a detailed regimen for the red LED mode (as well as for the other modes). A recommended session is up to 19 minutes, or you can do about four minutes per section - a section would be one side, cheek-to-jaw; or the forehead say. You can work on the whole face and neck or just focus on areas you are most concerned about if you are time-pressed.

Hi, I was just wondering how long I should use the LED for? Thank you.

Was this review helpful to you? YES(0) | NO(0)
  • Marta

Hi Stacey, it will help fade them over time. How long will depend on the depth of tone, whether they are seasonal (just appear when you have been in the sun) or year round. All hyperpgimentation requires patience before results are seen and it may take several months of regular use.

    Hi Annie
That is correct. For example I will treat my right upper lip, below the lip and right marionette line area as one section for four minutes and then move to the left side for four minutes. Then the next evening I will do my right crow's feet and right forehead as one section for four minutes and then treat the left side. Although the protocol for the clinical trials rigidly followed the instructions, the device was designed to fit in to the user's needs and time available. In other words, find what works for you. All you need to remember is that the results are cumulative and will slowly build over time. The basic requirements are discipline (regular use, fitting what you can into your schedule) and patience.

Was this review helpful to you? YES(0) | NO(0)
  • Annie

    Thanks Marta for your reply.

So if I was treating say the marionette lines I wouldn't need to spend four minutes on it as I had thought? As the marionette lines would be considered part of a section, such as the left side of my face?

And with the clinical trial photos the area shown such as marionette lines will not have been worked on for four minutes and 15 minutes used for the rest of the face? Apologies if I have got this wrong. I am just still really confused with the timings. Many thanks

Was this review helpful to you? YES(0) | NO(0)
  • Marta

Hi Annie, a section would be one side of your face, or your forehead. I should point out that there is no speculation as to what goes on in a clinical trial. The participants must strictly adhere to the instructions for use (that were FDA cleared, by the way, after having undergone a separate consumer useability and comprehension test. The clinical trials were carried out by a certified and independent lab, and independently audited.

I have used this for about 4 weeks so far, averaging 5 times a week. I am only using the ultrasound setting. I have noticed some very subtle firming, but so far just very subtle, hoping to see more effect after a full 12 weeks

I did contact the helpful customer support about her how long to use it for, as I am still not clear. The booklet says to use it about four minutes on each area and I am still not clear what constitutes an area. There has been the general advice to use it for 19 minutes for ultrasound. Customer Service advised if i want to target an area well I should give it four minutes minimum and then devote 15 minutes to the rest of my face.

I am wondering if the before and after pictures on this site whether the person has devoted four minutes to the small area shown. If this is the case then I think if a person wants to see results they might have to be prepared to spend longer than the 19 minutes mentioned on here. As four minutes on each area is longer than 19 minutes. So my advice is this may well have some good subtle effects over time but be prepared you may need to schedule significant time to achieve it.

I've been using the Truth Vitality Lux Renew for almost 6 weeks now and the results I've gotten so far are amazing and I'm thrilled to see what this little machine can accomplish over time. The ultrasound seems to affect the skin in a way I have seen no serum or cream do. It seems to slowly rebuild my old face. I see an over all firming and filling out of lines and under eye hollows. I've been using the ultrasound setting for 19 min every morning and the red light for about 10 minutes. I do it in the morning, while having breakfast and reading the news on my computer, so it really hasn't increased the time I need to get ready in the morning.

Hi Tara, Ultherapy works thermally - it gets hot. Our device is not thermal. You read more on ultrasound, how it works and those differences here: https://www.truthinaging.com/review/ultrasonic-how-it-works

Review and question~i love both devices I've purchased from you, the Lux Renew and Microcurrent device. There seem to always be newer and 'better' products coming out on the market and lately I'm hearing a lot about Ultherapy. I realize this is a professional procedure and it uses ultrasound. What is the difference between using an at home device with Ultrasound vs getting Ultherapy? What constitutes the spa treatments efficiency compared to an at home device? Is it the depth at which the ultrasound reaches or something else? Also if I hold your ultrasound device for several seconds on one area, is that detrimental or helpful or does it matter at all? I want to get the most out of all my devices from TIA.
    Thanks Marta!

I hope to make this a review very very soon, until then I have a question. My 16 yr old niece has terrible acne that breaks my heart but she has such a positive attitude and confidence and only covers it up for photos and special occasions. Your video speaks of occasion break outs and blemishes that we all get, she has a face full of them top to bottom and her neck and chest, dermatologists have tried everything including hormone adjustments. How much affect can we expect the blue LED have for her? And since she is so young is there anything else I should be aware of to caution? Thank you.

Hi Jennifer, its the same technology. In a spa you are more likely to get a large panel that covers the entire face and some fancy settings - eg my esthetician's machine can be programmed to alternate red and infra-red. But otherwise its the same thing.

I use the Lux Renew daily each evening , but am wondering if I can just use this device with just my serums instead of the topical gel that seems to dry up too fast & then it's not as slippery as just using my serums. Hi Ray, of course you will never get the same results with an at-home device as you will with a professional treatment. But regular and disciplined use of the device will bring results as you have seen with the before/afters. If you have had an Ulthera, then Truth Vitality Lux Renew should certainly augment its results, improving upon them or at least providing maintenance.

This is not a review, but a question prior to purchase. Exactly 4 months ago I had af full face Ultherapy treatment which was very expensive (I will be making monthly payments for quite a long while to pay for it). I am waiting to see how much tightening has occurred after 6 months. At 4 months post treatment, I still see a problem with Marionette lines and bags under my eyes, although I must say the skin under my neck and chin seems to have gotten tighter. My question is: will your new device be a good device to help my Ultherapy results last longer while improving the areas where I still see a problem; that is since I definitely cannot afford another Ultherapy treatment 2 months from now, I am really hoping this device is the next best alternative. I am 60 years old, by the way.

Our device is safe to use on facial fillers as it does not heat up. Ulthera is ultrasound but it works by creating heat. Our ultrasound technology does not get at all hot and so cannot dissolve fillers. It works by creating a tiny vibration (that you cannot feel) to the water around the skin cells. You can read more on how ultrasound works here: https://www.truthinaging.com/review/ultrasonic-how-it-works

You should always double check with the physician who performed the procedure.

Hi MaryAnn, the technology doesn't really work by causing inflammation. There is a reverberation of water around the cells that prompts a signal to produce collagen. There is more on how ultrasound works and LED works in these two articles:
    https://www.truthinaging.com/review/ultrasonic-how-it-works
    https://www.truthinaging.com/review/how-led-light-therapy-works-as-an-antiager-for-skin
Having said that, I cannot say whether you should or should not use this device with your medication and would strongly advise you to consult your prescribing physician.

This is a question prior to buying: I would like to know if the red light and ultrasound are effective if I am taking 5 mg of Prednisone a day on a long term basis. (I am a transplant patient. ) It is of course an anti-inflamatory and I believe the collagen production is based on causing a bit of inflammation to create more collagen. I don't know if the Prednisone would cancel out the benefits. Can you find out the answer to my question?

    Marta,

Just used this product for the first time. I used both the LED (red) for wrinkles and ultrasonic for sagging jaw line.

I'd like to know if I am using it correctly.

When I use the ultrasonic, I don't feel anything. I've had Thermage before and it was painful but worked. So I expected some pain. But I felt absolutely nothing. Does that mean it IS or IS NOT working.

I am also unsure about the gel I am using and whether it is conductive. It should be as it is water-based aloe vera and mask-thick.

As for the LED (red), even with the goggles on, I could see the light. Is that okay?

One last question: The instructions guide says the LED (red) can be used in between the brows, where I have deep lines. However, I can't figure out how that is possible if one is wearing the goggles at the time.

Hi Kitty, the FDA did not find "an issue" with the prototype device. There were two hurdles that we had to cross. The first was that the engineering requirements are very stringent and we had to create a device that met them. The second is that there needs to be clinical evidence of the efficacy of all functionality. This did not exist for the green light or ionic modes and until such evidence is available those functionalities are not FDA cleared and so we could not include them in the new device. If your device is working well then I am pleased that you had the chance to get a prototype for a good price.

I have the ultra renew plus and gave the first one (original) to my daughter. My concern is that the ultra is not good or something dangerous. Like others in this pistol should I throw it away? It's disheartening to purchase a machine with rave reviews and find out it's no longer for sale because the FDA found an issue with it. I see the concerns re such questions have yet to be answered.

Hi Kimberly, the new device, the Truth Vitality Lux Renew, has been cleared by the FDA. This process required tweaks to the engineering and functionality changes that the Ultra Renew Plus didn't have. The Ultra Renew Plus was a prototype for the new device and I am pleased that you were able to get one and have been enjoying it. There's no reason to change if your device is working well. The reason why we discontinued it is because such devices require FDA approval and that has been conferred to the new device.

I like my Ultra Renew PLUS machine, but I am on a budget, and can't purchase a "new and improved" machine every time one comes out. So what I want to know, should I throw my Ultra Renew Plus out in the trash? I see you don't carry it. Does that mean it didn't work and there is no reason to continue its use? This depresses me when I spend that kind of money, and then several months later, see that it isn't even carried anymore. It sure doesn't inspire my confidence in buying one of these ever again.

Please answer any of my concerns that you can, thanking you in advance. And thanks TIA, I learned most of what I know about skin care from you! Merry Xmas

Hi Sandra, you are right to be concerned as there is some research regarding blue light and the eyes (red light is fine). That is why we do caution that users wear goggles. Our goggles were FDA approved.

  • Sandra K

The more I read, the more I'm concerned about the blue light on these things damaging my eyes, especially with how often I use my Truth Renew Plus. Coupled with the fact that the goggles included with my device seem to not block very much light at all, I'm doubly concerned. Perhaps this is exactly why the FDA required the blue light to be closer to violet.

I received my new TVLR this week. I am wondering if you could please clarify where the unit can be used in each mode. I am particularly wondering--

    1. Can the ultrasonic mode be used on the neck and décolleté?

    2. Can the ultrasonic mode be used on arms and legs?

    3. Can the red led be used anywhere on the face (except eyes), neck, décolleté, arms and legs?

    4. Are results quicker/better with higher levels of the ultrasound mode.

    Thank you!

Hi Marie, the results are cumulative - the more you use the device the better the effects over time.

Hi Kevin, we don't provide output information. Output is a key measurement - and a very complex one - for diagnostic ultrasound and this is not diagnostic machine.

    Hi Marta:

I am shopping for a good at home LED device I have narrowed it down between the Truth Vitality Lux Renew and the Baby Quasar. Can you tell me what the differences are? I am most concerned with my marrionetee lines that are getting deeper by the day! I need something fairly powerful to impact. Of course, I am not looking to have them be compeltely gone, but want them to deminish. I am seriously thinking of injections down the road and want a good device to help prolong the effects

Anyway, just looking for an expert to give me some advice! Would appreciate if you could let me know your thoughts! I am not concerned about spending the money on the Baby Quasar. But if your device is a powerful then i would certainly get it!

    Thanks

    Lisa

    Hi Marta --

I recently bought your Truth Renew Plus. I am curious why you discontinued it so soon, and how it differs from the Truth Vitality Lux.

    Thank you!

    Hi Marta,
I have the Quaser MD Plus, which I love, so I'm not looking for more LED. What I am interested in is the Ultrasound, does it help with loose/sagging skin? I have been researching and found the HS-3026 2 MHz Ultrasound Facial Massager that is suppose to improve the facial skin. Do you know anything about this product?

    Thank you! :)

    Hello,
Curious to see any before and after images if you have them. Also my concern is the neck, a bit of crepey skin and a dumpling under the chin. Not sagging completely but more firming would be nice! Comments?

The wavelengths are Red LED: 650nm and Blue LED: 415nm. These are the wavelengths that the FDA required and hence are used in the Lux Renew device in order to be compliant.

Colleen, I saw your comment about gel. This is what I have done with the Ultra Renew Plus, and it has worked to eliminate the need to mist my face with water and has also taken away the zappy electrical feeling I was getting from the device handle into my hands. I purchased glycerine from the drug store and mixed in about half-half with my favourite toner (which is loaded with anti-oxidants and great botanicals.) A silver dollar-sized dollop in my palm covers my face and neck, has good slip, and doesn't dry out over the 30 minutes I use it. Hope this helps.

    Hello all,

I currently own and use (although not as much lately as I should be!) both the Ultra Renew and the Sculpt, which I will keep using. I happened to come onto your TIA site tonight as I am out of the gel, but I have been wondering about what other types of products you could recommend using with the ultrasonic treatments. In my reading of your (great!) articles, I am sure you have mentioned on different occasions of using different serum products (for hydration, etc.) Can we use most of the serums? Could you tell us what things we SHOULDN'T use with our ultra devices? (i.e. - right/wrong kind of base - oil vs. H2O, etc.) Are peptides ok to use? How about products with the growth factors, stem cells, etc.?

I am quite interested in the Mit-Q Serum as well as some of the E'Shee prodcuts.

If you could spare a minute and shoot me a few suggestions I would be grateful. When we are done our harvest here, it will be time again to give my face some attention after a long summer on the farm. I have the usual wrinkles, age/sun spots, etc. and I was hoping to go straight to the professional for her straight-up advice. Thanks again.

Hi Gretchen, thank you for your helpful and thorough questions. I will do my best to answer them. 1) There is no difference in the "strength" of the devices. 2) Ultrasound and ultrasonic are the same thing. 3) No the prototype devices are not unsafe or ineffective and were not found to be so by the FDA. 4) The way that the FDA works is that need to find historical precedents that have clinical and other data to support them. Without these, an applicant would have to submit new evidence based on their own clinical trials - expensive and lengthy. Because this clinical history did not exist for the green light, we had to drop it from the device - we submitted the Ultra Renew Plus. Then because the spectrum of blue light that FDA had clinical data on for help with acne was closer to violet, we were required to modify it. It isn't a question of better or stronger, it is a question of being exactly like something that the FDA already knows to be safe and effective. I hope this helps, Marta

    Hi Marta!

Thanks for your detailed answers and I also believe that the FDA approval will lend assurance and credibility to your product for most consumers.

I have a few questions that might help reassure others as well.

Is there any difference in the "strength" of the Ultrasound and LEDs between the Ultra Renew Plus? Is Ultrasound different from Ultrasonic? Is there any reason to believe the earlier generations (like the Ultra Renew Plus) of this device have been found "ineffective" or unsafe? You mentioned the green was omitted and the blue LED was changed to more of a purple--does the purple work better? Is the Original blue LED ineffective? Why no green light? Has it been found that using the settings simultaneously is less or not effective? Why didn't the FDA approve the existing devices?

I can understand people being upset about recently buying a "prototype" device only to have an FDA approved device come out with a name that implies that it's somehow better or stronger. However, your only alternative is to stop innovating and improving products. That doesn't make sense in any business or industry.

Thanks, Marta, for your continued hard work--and for being so available to all of us.

Hi Leesa, we typically say 30 mins/three times a week or 15 mins/five times a week, so that should be fine. Personally, I use it four about 10 mins/five times a week and see results. Lux Renew has been designed to be flexible so I would encourage you to experiment and see what fits your schedule and gives you the best results.

Hi Kimberly, at home devices are not as powerful as a professional machine. Typically, you would need to visit the doctor or esthetician once a month, whereas the at home devices need to be used at least 3 times a week for 10-20 minutes. However, regular use pays off and most of us do see real results.

Hi Marie, thank you for recognizing what a marathon it has been (it has taken over a year). Actually, through the process I became more impressed with the FDA and the detail they go into to require that the consumer has access to products that comply with safety standards. We submitted the Plus to the FDA with all functionalities. However, we were asked to remove green light and ion as the FDA did not have clinical histories for those modes or for using all modes at the same time. There is only one engineering tweak that makes a difference in usage and that is that FDA requested that the blue light be 415nms on the cleared device. It puts it closer to violet (although it is still blue), but this is what previous trials have shown works on acne. The red light and ultrasound are unchanged. Other changes were highly detailed such as "reducing the creepage distance" for the power supply. It doesn't effect how you use the device, but ensures it complies with regulatory standards. The tweaks were of that nature.

    Dear Marta,

This is my first post, as I'm not easily moved to do such things. I did, however, spend a lot of time reading the posts of others as well as your well thought out responses. Although I too don't put much store in FDA approval, I will commend you for the stamina it may have taken to see this through the bureaucracy involved.

As I haven't even used my brand new Truth Renew Plus, and not being aware it was a prototype, I certainly have questions:
    * why was the green light left out of this new model?
    * why was the ion component also left out?
    * what were the engineering tweaks made on the newer model that the older one lacks?

This is not a note of complaint, by any means. I am glad to have all the options of the Renew Plus, as well as the concurrent use of settings, at a much better price. (I also bought the Myotone Facial Toning Device at the same time, and look forward to trying out both soon.) I'd just appreciate having answers to these questions to continue to be an informed consumer. Thanks in advance for the details as I very much look forward to your response.

I just purchased the Ultra Renew Plus, it is in transit to me. I don't recall seeing this new option when I purchased the Renew. I cannot say for sure, but I might have spent the additional money since I do know the expense of spa treatments................. So since my interest is in the red light but more so the ultra sound for firming, please explain the difference between the 5 speeds of the newer unit vs the Renew. Also what would be the policy on returning for the upgrade?

I guess I'm like the others, Maeta. I understand the'credibility' the FDA clearance brings. However, the mere fact that you can't combine protocols is a huge drawback especially the time factor. You got to give those of us satisfied w/the prototypes a reason to want to buy this next generation that costs more, is less efficient and doesn't have increased results??

  • Marta

    Marta

Hi Kimberley, as I said in response to Pam, your device was the prototype for Lux Renew and we are not saying that one is better than the other. Many people, including me, do care about the FDA's clearance process. It means that there have been plenty of tests and tweaks to ensure the engineering meets requirements. It has, to also respond to Wendy, been a very lengthy and expensive process. While we were on that journey, we gave our community the best possible deals on the prototypes. We will continue to discover and create new cutting edge beauty products and bring them to our community.

Hi Pam, there are adjustments that we made to meet the FDA specifications. Most of them do not effect the power or efficacy. For example, we had to adjust the blue light wavelengths at FDA's request. This does not effect performance. Your device is just as good as the Lux Renew. However, we will be discontinuing the prototypes and will sell only the FDA-cleared Lux Renew.

Marta, I still don't quite understand. My nearly new Ultra Renew Plus device also has Ultrasound and red and blue LED - even though as you mentioned it was a prototype. So, what is technically, functionally different in the Lux version?

Is the Truth Vitality Lux Renew more powerful? Is the ultrasonic component or strength different? Does it have more powerful Red lights, or more of them?

  • Marta

    September 5, 2014

    Marta

Hi Pam, Monica and Margie, Truth Renew and Truth Renew Plus devices are all prototypes that we've developed. We've spent the past year working with the FDA to create a new anti-aging tool that allows users to use ultrasound, red LED and blue LED to treat wrinkles and acne. The new device does not contain green LED, ionic, or the ability to combine treatments at the same time.

  • Marta

    September 5, 2014

Hi PJ, getting FDA approval is a lengthy and costly process in order to meet very strict engineering and consumer use criteria. If you look at every other FDA cleared device you will find that the Lux Renew is less expensive than all of them. And it has more functionality. Other devices are LED only, or microcurrent only, for example, and some are more than $100 more expensive. We chose the most competitive price and maintain three functionalities - red LED, blue LED and ultrasound.

Quick User Guide:
  • Use on a clean, dry face without makeup.
  • Connect the handpiece to the power adaptor and plug into a power outlet.
  • The Ultrasonic mode and the LED modes cannot be used at the same time, however, they may be used consecutively.
  • A water-based, topical gel or serum must be used with Ultrasonic mode to ensure  conductivity. It is recommended that the water-based gel be applied to the thickness of a face mask
  • In Ultrasonic mode, the bars on the LCD display indicate the level of intensity. Start with the first level and increase if it is comfortable for you.
  • There are two LED lights: red = anti-wrinkle and acne treatment; blue = acne treatment. When using the LED mode, choose the setting accordingly. Note: LED does not require a water-based serum or gel.
  • The device will automatically switch off after 19 minutes. If you wish to continue your session after the 19 minutes, you must switch it back on.
  • For a shorter session, you can adjust the time. With your Lux Renew switched on, press MODE repeatedly to select Time in the display (it will flash). When Time is flashing, press SHIFT repeatedly to adjust to the time of your choice .
  • After use, a soft cloth should be used to wipe the device clean. Do not use water, chemical cleanser or dish detergent.
  • Precautions: Do NOT use Truth Vitality Lux Renew if you are pregnant or if you have an overactive thyroid.
Ultrasonic frequency: 3 MHz +/- 5% Red LED: 650nm Blue LED: 415nm Adapter input power: AC 100-120V Adapter output power: 15V, 400mA The Truth Vitality Lux Renew comes equipped with a US power adapter (AC 100-240V).
