Recommended for effective mineral sun protection enhanced with antioxidants

Here is my review of a really wonderful all-in-one moisturizer from Prana called Natural Defense SPF 25 Moisturizer ($39 in the shop). Originally, this product was offered to me by TIA for testing at the end of 2012.

After reading the description and list of ingredients, I could hardly wait to begin using the Prana sunscreen but unexpectedly felt that it was not moisturizing enough, given the extreme cold weather outside and drying central heating inside. So I decided to postpone my review for the spring.

Now that the central heating is off and it’s spring outside, I gave the Prana Natural Defense a second try and, you know, I’m really enjoying it. I might even go so far as to call it a must-have for the spring/summer season; it’s light, silky and pleasant to use.

The scent is so delicious (like candies or caramel), and when you apply it, it absorbs quickly yet provides enough time for a light face massage. As you massage it in, you can see your face transforming – all lines disappear, the skin looks fresh and healthy. The feeling is like you have taken a breath of fresh air or just returned from a warm-weather vacation on some heavenly resort.

Moreover, the product provides not only good moods and pleasant feelings, but also good sun protection (it has SPF 25, which is enough for the city) and antioxidants. The actives remain stable thanks to the smart packaging in a dark opaque plastic bottle with a pump. The volume is generous (60ml/2oz).

This product does wonders and provides optimal sun protection, moisturizes, feeds your skin with antioxidants and makes a great base for makeup.

I am very happy with this sample from TIA. I would absolutely recommend it to everyone, especially for spring and summer.

    Hi Holly

Thank you for a great question. First I want to distinguish between micronized and nanoparticles as sometimes they are confused. Micronized particles are bigger than nanoparticles. Nanoparticles are less than 100 nanometers in diameter, or 0.1 micron. Most nanoparticle sunscreens are in the range of 15 nanometers or 0.015 micron. Typically micronized particles are between 0.1 micron and 100 microns. A particle must be less than 50 nanometers to enter skin cells and less than 70 nanometers to enter the lungs. So micronized particles will not enter the skin.

I am interested in this product, but am concerned about the 'micronized' titanium dioxide. I was told to avoid micronized, as they can penetrate the skin and cause health concerns. I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks.

My new daily sunscreen! I don't really think of it as a moisturizer, but more of a cosmetically acceptable sunscreen. Silky, no chalky residue, plays nice over serums and under LVC's Creme Foundation. I love all the botanical antioxidants as well!
