Our Take on Dove's New "Patches" Video

April 25, 2014 Reviewed by admin 0 Comments

Recently, Dove unveiled its latest Campaign for Real Beauty video, "Patches," in which women who didn't feel attractive were given a placebo "beauty" patch to wear for two weeks and told to keep a video diary of their journey. The goal was to prove that being beautiful comes from feeling beautiful. And after experiencing a boost of confidence and self-esteem over the course of the trial, the women were all shocked to learn there was nothing in the patch.

Since its debut, Dove’s video has been the source of some jokes, criticism and even spoofs. But at the root of the video is a worthwhile message: true beauty comes from a state of mind. While we think that Dove is onto something, we believe that beauty also comes from a state of health and well-being. Here are some of our favorite picks for products that help bring out the healthiest, most beautiful version of your skin.

Your Best Face Antioxidants Concentrate ($65 in the shop) is a lightweight yet creamy blend that contains ferulic acid, spin trap, lipochroman-6, resveratrol and glutathione to revitalize, tone, protect and heal skin. It can also be used on other areas in need of a boost, such as the hands and neck.

Astara Citrus Lavender Sea Salt Scrub ($39 in the shop) uses an effective mix of Dead Sea salts and papaya enzymes for dual-action exfoliation and softening, while nourishing botanicals hydrate skin without leaving behind an oily residue.

The Organic Pharmacy Rose Shower Gel ($45) cleanses skin without stripping away its natural moisture. With a delicate formula of olive and rose hip oils, it’s especially well-suited for dry or sensitive skin and can be used on the face as well.

Arcona Wine Hydrating Mask ($38) is a moisture-binding mask full of antioxidants and resveratrol from red grapes, which helps to rejuvenate and repair skin while also stimulating cellular renewal.

Red Flower Kinmoxei Wild Lime Silk Oil ($48) deeply moisturizes skin and promotes a radiant glow through a nutrient-rich formula of vitamin E, antioxidants, fatty acids and natural silk protein.

RMS Beauty Lip & Skin Balm ($25) heals, protects and hydrates lips and other areas of the skin. Its formula of organic ingredients like argan, coconut and jojoba seed oil works to optimize skin’s natural functions.

Prana Reishi Mushroom Shield ($42 in the shop) is a lightweight moisturizer with SPF 45 derived from organic plant stem cell mushrooms and micronized zinc. It protects skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays while also calming redness and inflammation.

Ultra Clear Facial Cleansing System ($86 in the shop) is a facial cleansing system by Truth In Aging that is powerful yet gentle, making it perfect for sensitive or mature skin. The rotating brush head helps to refine pores, clarify the complexion and stimulate healthy skin.
