Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic & Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Overnight Serum is an nighttime serum featuring a dynamic trio of retinol, ferulic acid, and niacinamide to fade wrinkles and firm skin. Make the most of your beauty sleep and wake up to skin that's radiant and more even in tone than ever.

New York-based dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross developed this serum with a special time-released dose of retinol to bolster your complexion's natural repairing processes throughout the night. Ferulic acid puts in overtime as a free radical fighter and booster of the other antioxidants in this formula. Finally, niacinamide retextures your complexion for unbelievably smooth skin. Additionally, this product is vegan, and cruelty and paraben free, so you can feel good using it.

Tested for 30 days and approved by Valerie:
I have been testing the Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Overnight Serum. My experiences with retinol have been hit or miss for a variety of reasons, which is why I was excited to try another retinol product. As with any retinol product, it shouldn’t necessarily be used everyday. I opt to use a retinol product every other day as I am careful not to overexfoliate my skin.

The container is an airless pump and also made of a brown colored plastic, both of which are helpful in preserving the freshness of the product. The serum itself has a creamy appearance rather than that of a watery serum. Nonetheless, this product sinks right into the skin. You can even put a facial oil on top if desired.

This product does boast a time-released version of retinol. For this reason I believe, I did not experience any sensitivity. Most retinol directions say not to use near your eyes and while I didn’t run it right under my lash line or anything, I didn’t have any issues. In the past, I have experienced pretty uncomfortable dryness in my eyes when using retinol, which I’m happy to say didn’t happen with this serum, yay!

Everyone pretty much knows about the benefits of retinol and Marta has many articles available on TIA, so I won’t expound upon this ingredient here. Ferulic acid is a powerful antioxidant and niacinimide is a derivative of vitamin B3 that suppresses melanin from reaching the surface of the skin and protects the skin from further UV damage. All that being said, I have started to notice a reduction in the wrinkle depth of my crows feet. Even more impressive, was that a colleague of mine described my skin as looking creamy, which is a descriptor I would have never previously used when referring to my skin.

All in all, I am very happy with this product and think that the extended use of this serum will yield even better results. It’s my belief that when only using a product about three times a week, you’ve got to allow additional time for the results. Considering that I’ve already seen an improvement, I’m impressed.

  • Hello Lorna,

I have a combination skin, (little on dry side) occasional acne, I've been using this product for a couple weeks and has not gave me any problems. It is surprising hydrating for me. I really like this product but since everyone's skin is different and mine is not sensitive, I do not know for sure how it will be with others. There are more reviews posted now on Sephora and DDG sites. If you have Sephora account, I think you could ask for a sample to test out before committing to a full bottle.

  • Hi,
I was looking forward to perhaps trying this product, then I unfortunately read a review by a customer on the Space NK (UK) website (it was the only review for the Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic & Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Overnight Serum). It reads as follows:-

    So disappointed.

"I had such high hopes for this and I'm gutted it hasn't worked out. This gave me the WORST breakout I have EVER had. I maybe get one spot every two months if that. The first night I tried this the next morning I had small red bumps with white heads all over both cheeks. The next day I had much larger spots everywhere. I thought perhaps it was a one off and being that I really wanted to like this I thought I would persevere and try again. I've now tried it three times, each time with 1-2 days between uses and I'm now living in a constant state of acne which I've NEVER HAD. I leave for holiday in a week and praying it will clear up. What a waste of nearly £80. Gutted."

I was so keen to try the Dr. Dennis Gross FERULIC + RETINOL WRINKLE RECOVERY OVERNIGHT SERUM, but now I must admit I've lost a little confidence about whether I should purchase this product or not, as I am occasionally plagued by some hormonal breakouts (unrelated as far as I know to the items in my current skincare regime). Does anyone have an opinion on this product? Should I give it a go, and assume the Space NK reviewer was an anomaly, or has anybody else had a similar reaction?
    I'd really appreciate your feedback.

I approached this serum with some caution. I have sensitive skin and a healthy respect for retinol based products, appreciating their usefulness, but anxious not to overdo them. I was curious as well as a little trepidatious as to how I would do on a month-long nightly trial of this serum.

I started out with a cautious every other night. Within a week, I realized that not only was the Overnight Serum very gentle, but I was waking up looking pretty damn good. I upped it to every night and have used it thus for the past four weeks.

I am getting compliments on my skin and I, personally, am appreciating improved radiance, clarity and smoothed out fine lines. I should note tbat I have decreased my beloved Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel ($88 in the shop) to every other day in the interest of not over exfoliating, as there are several alpha hydroxyl acids in the Overnight Serum.

  • Hi Benjer, we asked DDG and they said that they don't give out the concentration as it is a proprietary blend of retinol and ferulic acid, which gives "high potency results of retinol, but the ferulic acid buffers it to prevent sensitivity".

  • What is the retinol percentage in this serum ? Can you please find out Truth in antiaging team ?
