TIA Review by Nina:
Amarte's Natural Finish BB cream is best explained by the following sentence, which flew out of my sister's mouth the moment she saw me wearing it:

"Your skin looks amazing! Wow. You literally have the immaculately even skin of a 12 year old. "

That pretty much sums it up! Amarte gave me a flawless, even complexion and a dewy natural glow, the likes of which you only see on kids and Photoshopped celebrities (and that's in spite of the fact that it was actually a shade too pink for my skin). It was so perfect that at first I felt a little plastic, but not because I looked fake, rather because mannequins, Barbie and the airbrushed faces of supermodels don't have zits, pores, redness or squiggle veins, and for the first time since I was 12, neither did I. Instead my skin looked even, fresh, and not at all made up (trust me, my sister cries "pancake!" at even the slightest hint of face make-up or foundation). It also created a great base for my blush, which looked more vibrant against my evened-out complexion and lasted pretty much all day.

It did take just the littlest bit of experimenting to get things right. The first thing I noticed about Amarte is that it was a lot thicker than I expected it to be and a little goes a very long way. I found that not quite a full pump will be more than enough for your entire face. And for those who use face powder, loose powder is much better than pressed powder, which in my case got a little gunky. Amarte offers SPF 36 protection, and though I preferred to pair it with my more powerful sunblock, I didn't notice any extra freckling (my nose and lips dot-up within minutes in the summer, I love it, but do worry about what it means as far as future wrinkles are concerned) when I used it alone.

My skin, which is prone to both eczema and pimples, fared fine. My pores weren't clogged, I didn't break out, and it didn't induce any eczema. All in all, I've never looked better than I have with Natural Finish. Again, it blended perfectly with both my sunblock and with my Mad Hippie Vitamin C serum. Amarte also appears to be sweat-proof, lasting through my two-hour dance classes.

Natural Finish also uses Elemental Sulfur, which has anti-acne properties, and also helps relieve dandruff, rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis. It has my personal favorite, Aloe Vera Extract, and it packs in a lot of EFAs, which come from argan kernel Oil, shea butter, and caviar extract taken from Sturgeon.

While Amarte does nourish even as it restores you to your pre-teen glory, it's guilty of some dubious ingredients, including talc, which has been linked to cancer, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate and phenoxyethanol. While the talc and Phenoxyethanol are the last two ingredients, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is one of the sun-blocking agents (though it is only 5% of the cream). Because full-face make-up is for me, typically an emergency response and not part of my normal routine (though that may change!), I'm not overly -concerned about it. But I do want to mention it for those who use BB creams on a daily basis.

Right now there are only two shades of Amarte Natural Finish BB cream, light and natural tint. According the website, more shades are "being actively considered for future launch," so hopefully Amarte will soon have products for people of all skin tones. I've been using Natural Tint, which as I mentioned was a little pink and just a little light for my skin, but because the cream is not overly heavy, my powder managed to correct the tone discrepancy.

Amarte is a great cream and one I'll use for special occasions, emergency situations and anytime I'm in the mood to look my best. I hesitate to use it on a regular basis, simply because make-up can be so addicting. As I replied to my awestruck sister, "See, this is what I hate about make-up - you look so good when you put in on, but it will be really disappointing tonight when I take it off.

"Yeah," she said, "but I really wouldn't stop wearing it, if I were you."

Your Take...

AT LAST...after trying jane iredale's Glow Time in BB7 AND BB9 (colors), her Dream Tint in her Medium/Dark color (the only product that has worked for me in terms of spreadability and color), Juice Beauty Stem Cellular CC Cream, and Suntegrity 5-in-1 Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen with minimal success, I finally found a product that works. On my SIXTH TRY, the Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream hit the ball out of the park for me as a tinted 'barrier' (vs. a chemical) sunscreen. The 'barrier' in all of the products I tried was zinc oxide in varying forms providing different SPF coverages. While some dermatologists and plastic surgeons contend that as along as both UVA AND UVB coverage is provided, that an SPF of 30 or above is enough to give anyone the coverage needed to provide safety from the sun. In other words, a higher number than 30 SPF will not give you MORE safety. Of course, this is open to controversy in the medical literature and certainly on a case-by-case basis for any given user. That being said, I am comfortable with the SPF of 38 provided in this product.

Pros: The Amarte BB cream in 'Natural Tint' is a PERFECT color for me. If you've read any of my reviews on the above products, I've cited my yellow under-toned skin as an issue in finding the right color and product (among other issues). I've found this a paradox as MANY (not all) of the original BB (& CC, etc.) creams originated in the Pacific Rim, where many clients need a more yellow vs pink under-toned color. This product spreads on easily and flawlessly with no 'settling' into any of my tiny facial wrinkles (I'm turning 59 shortly), there does not seem to be any offensive scent, a little product goes a very long way, and I haven't found the need to wear extra moisturizer underneath to provide spreadability.

Cons: (and why I did NOT give this fantastic product five stars): I found at least 3, if not 4 ingredients which leave me with cause for concern. Two of them, Talc and Phenoxyethanol are the last two ingredients listed, meaning that they have the least amount of these chemicals in the mix--although, it's not known how much it takes to cause long-term negative effects. There has been an enormous amount of controversy swirling in all of the medical literature--more just in the last 2-4 weeks (NOT confined to plastic surgery/dermatology articles) about the possible carcinogenic and other long-term negative qualities of talc. The other two ingredients that concern me in the Amarte BB cream are propylene glycol (3rd ingredient--with water as the 1st ingredient) and ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (5th ingredient).

All of the pros and cons being said, I still have my Dr. Dennis Gross Sheer Mineral Sun Spray to use underneath jane iredale's Dream Tint (Medium/Dark color) for my everyday sun protection and this wonderful Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream for special occasions or when I want to wear ANY makeup (I wear very little). The Amarte BB cream leaves my skin looking dewy, youthful, 'unmade', and absolutely flawless--almost as if I'd airbrushed (!!) my face! Despite the fact that this is technically makeup, it is ALSO my sunscreen--making me feel fantastic that, at close to 60 years old, I can leave home wearing JUST this sunscreen and have my skin look at least 15 years younger (unsolicited comments from two close friends!).

After spending so much money on trying to find a tinted moisturizer sunscreen with zinc (barrier sunscreen), Marta/TIA was gracious enough to provide me with two small color samples (at a very nominal price for products, shipping, and processing). I purchased the Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream in "Natural Tint" the day I received the two color samples.

  • Hi Jessica, your are right to take note of these ingredients. Regarding propylene glycol, the associations with cancer seem to need more research as the data is contradictory so far. But there are toxicity concerns at certain concentrations and it could be an irritant. Here is an article from our archive:
The talc issue is also not clear cut. However, the American Cancer Society cautiously warns against it while noting that the data is patchy. Here is more from our archive:

  • Hi Marta, I am a physician and have used prescription skin care products most of my life--not all of them that safe!! However, after working at MD Anderson Cancer Center for many years, I do tend to read labels a bit more now.

Are you concerned about the talc in this BB product? The reviews seem to be excellent (compared with some of the other BB products you have), but the talc and propylene glycol concern me a bit. Exposure to talc CAN be carcinogenic (although I faithfully read JAMA weekly and frankly, almost any 'luxury' we use or eat has had cancer claims...).

Just wanted to get your opinion on these two ingredients. I am still looking for the perfect cream to moisturize, bronze, hopefully 'treat', e.g. EGF, prime (primer), AND provide a barrier sunscreen! Please comment and advise on your favorite product that might provide all or most of the above. Thank you!

TIA has transformed my skincare regimen. Now, I'm trying to maximize my bare essential makeup routine.

My sensitive clogging-prone skin likes so little and dislikes so much. Each time I apply new serum, cream of even cleanser, I expect usual redness to be the first reaction.

This cream was one of those few exceptions that make me so happy I found one in a million :)

If for some reason my skin is still a bit dry for base application after cleansing and moisturising, I use a drop of yourbestface C or B serum mixed together with Amarte's. But in general I do not need this, and Amarte BB Cream is enough to deliver extra moisture and smooth my face after cleansing and serums.

It also makes miracles to my under-eye area - it brings radiance and sheering, moisturizing my dry pergament-like skin around eyes.

It is non-greasy, non-comedogenic, non-irritating base in a huge bottle. I bought it last December (a year ago) and I still use it daily!

My favorite new "foundation". It goes on smoothly and I can easily adjust the amount of coverage. Most days I actually just mix a dollop with my moisturizer to tint and it's wonderful. My skin feels great all day long. I'm 40+ and usually don't add powder; my face has a nice glow but now greasy.

  • Is no one worried about the propylene glycol???w

  • 5 stars 5 out of 5

I love the Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream. It goes on very smoothly, blends with my skin tone very well and I can control the amount of coverage. I also like it have SPF 36 but does not make my face feel dry.

  • 5 stars 4 out of 5

This is the best quality BB Cream I've ever tried. It smells lovely, goes on smooth and doesn't cling to any dry patches. I am 25 and have mild rosacea on my cheeks; BB creams are by definition sheer coverage, so this doesn't entirely cover my redness, but it does blur the area and diffuse pigmentation softly, leaving a nice surface for you to go back and add more concealer as needed. The only reason it only gets 4 stars is because the light tint is a tad too dark for my porcelain skin; however, it's sheer enough that if I just take it down my neck a bit it's fine for summer.

  • 5 stars 3 out of 5

I've been using Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream for a little over month now. This has very sheer coverage and does not cover my sun damage, wrinkle or pores. I wanted to try this product from all the great reviews and great ingredients. I was unsure with this product at first since my old BB Cream from skin79 gave me sheer yet little more coverage and was priced better. Some days, this product caked up on me and the other day it doesn't but I live in very dry area and this could be due to the moisture content of my environment. I have to admit that my skin conditions are far from good and this product is probably perfect for those already have great skin that do not need much coverage for it does give a glow to your skin that other BB cream did not give. I'm sticking with this product for now but I wish it covered my pore and discolorations little more while I am treating these imperfections.

  • 5 stars 5 out of 5

I absolutely love this foundation! Had been using J I for years but this tops them all in coverage and such a lovely finish. I felt I should add that is is extremely thick and for all of you that have commented that it's too heavy, I agree it is on its own. But here is my solution, it only takes a tiny amount of product, to which I add a drop or two of argan oil and a pump of Nutra-lift maximum C with growth factors, blend and apply. Goes on wonderfully with the addition of the two products that only make it better for your skin. True

Being an Asian and living in Asia, I love BB and CC creams and have used many. Amarte's BB cream is one of the nicest I've used and I love it. It is easy to spread, covers nicely without looking cakey but still manages to look so natural. It's a tad pricey compared to other BB creams I've used, but it's a big bottle and a little goes a long way.

I do have a couple of wishes though - I wish there are more shades (I'm kind of in-between the current two but closer to Light, which works for me but it'll be nice to have a closer match), and I'm more used to BB creams in tubes than bottles. The Amarte bottle is pretty big for a BB cream/ foundation, and I tend not to bring it along when I travel. But these are minor wishes - I'll continue to use and love this BB Cream!

Love, love, love, love. It covers beautifully and feels rich. I wear it alone mostly.

  • 5 stars 5 out of 5

Got a sample from TIA. I am very picky. This BB cream is perfection. I've never had a BB cream that looks so beautiful, feels so comfortable on. The finish is just lovely and not heavy. I have pretty good skin for 60+, but this product makes it look even better. Doesn't settle into wrinkles very much - certainly no where near as much as with other BB creams and foundations. I even used it under my eyes and the effect was far better than using concealer for my dark circles. My under eyes looked less crepey and more hydrated as well. My cream luminizer, powder bronzer and blush worked really well with this BB cream. Only thing I'm not happy about are a couple of the ingredients, but I can't help myself - this is a great product. Amarte BB Cream gives beautiful, glowing, close to perfection skin. Blends beautifully. Suprisingly able to wear both colors, perfer the warmth in the natural tint, but both colors work well!

  • 5 stars 3 out of 5

This product just did not work for me. It was a little too heavy and Neither color (light or Natural) were a match for me. One was too light the other too dark. I tried mixing them and just realized it was just too heavy.

  • 5 stars 4 out of 5

The first two times I used this product my friends told me how great I looked....and one of them is an esthetician! Enough said....the reason I didn't give the product a 5 is because the color is a little off...I had to blend it with some bronzer....

There's nothing like skipping so many steps to your morning regime. Serum, antioxidants, moisturizer, SPF, primer, and foundation. All in one! Fabulous concept. Initially I checked out the Amarte BB Cream online to make sure the "light" shade wasn't too light for me. The coverage was perfect, not too light like a lot of BB creams and blended very well over my skin. My only complaint was the shade and tone. Much too light and pink toned. Such a shame! I would be tempted to try another shade of theirs.

  • 5 stars 5 out of 5

I love this product, I'm quite anti makeup, most days I like to cleanse, hydrate and go about my day. I do like tinted moisteriser for this reason although this is better, it has great coverage my tone looks lovely and even, it's silky and has sunscreen. I've only been using it for a few days and I'm sold. With a smudge of the Wall sample on my cheeks I look quite presentable!

Hi, I also received this product sample in my D.W.M. Collection. The light tint was perfect for my daughter and the natural tint was perfect for me. We have both tried several BB creams and this one is by far our favorite. Just the right amount of coverage and moisturizing effect. Perfect natural glow. Plus we have completely different skin types but it still suits us both. love it!

  • Hi Gloria, sorry to hear that. Preksha in customer service is going to follow up with you via email and get you taken care of.

  • Marta I did not get this in my Discover With Marta Collection. I got the Amarte Hydrolift cream. Is there any way I can get a sample of the light? This sounds like a great product. I am looking for something with a bit more coverage than the Osmosis Innerlight, (which I love.)

  • 5 stars 5 out of 5

I agree with Nina's review. It was love at first sight, when I applied Amarte BB Cream. I've now been using it for three weeks snd just amazed a the flawless, youthful glow it gives. After many years of frustration, I enjoy my makeup routine again.

  • 5 stars 5 out of 5

Ahhh I LOVE the light tint. I want to order for sure. I use Ellis Faas which is good but does not give me the luminosity I get with Amarte. Just wish shipping to Australia wasn't so crazy expensive : - (

  • Hi Carolyn

Ultimately it is a personal decision. I don't like the chemical sunscreen or propylene glycol so high up on the list. Talc isn't good either, but it is way down the list. Compared to most BBC creams, its pretty good and the botanicals and actives are impressive. My take is that there are far more good things than bad here.

  • Hi Marta, I too am extremely impressed with this sample and had decided to buy it in full size until I saw the ingredient list. How disappointing. It's a fabulous performer but the benefits likely don't outweigh the risk. Thoughts?

  • 5 stars 5 out of 5

I received a two small samples of Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream in the Summer 2013 Discover With Marta collection-- one in light tint, one in natural tint. The light tint matches my skin tone perfectly. The texture is light and blends into the skin flawlessly. Just a little product is needed to give a soft, glowing, matte finish. It works well around the eyes, without the heavy, cakey look of concealer or foundation.

  • This is in the current Discover With Marta collection and we are already hearing raves

I was wondering if there was anyway to get a sample of this product. I would really love to try it, but am afraid to spend $50 on something I may not like? Please let me know if there is anyway to get a smaller sample for a cheaper price to try this product?! Very interested in it!!!
