I was born in 1973, and am a trained graphic designer and a wannabe esthetician. When I was a very young boy, my mother and grandmother’s Mary Kay parties had a strong influence on me and I have been interested in skincare ever since. Sometime in my 20s one of my friends described me as having “skin for days.” This little comment further sparked my passion for skincare, and I experimented with many drugstore and beauty counter brands. By my mid-30s, I realized these were not really cutting it anymore and I could see the first signs of aging creeping up on me. It was also around this time that I met my best friend. Our mutual curiosity in skincare led to a lot of research into ingredients that really make a difference. Eventually I came upon this gem of a site and I couldn’t be more grateful for the pioneering community here at TIA!

I am a strong believer in “purposeful injury” to the dermis, a well-formulated sunblock and a carefree attitude as our best chance at preserving our looks. My mission in life is to spread the word of good skincare to anyone who will listen, and with a few drinks in me, even to those who won’t.

Royal Nectar Bee Venom Eye Cream

I was totally thrilled when I was asked to test Royal Nectar Bee Venom Eye Cream ($35 in the shop), because I have seen the hype on bee venom from the very beginning here at TIA, which made me very curious about it.

My curiosity about how bee venom remains, however, since there are conflicting reports about how it actually works. Many of the articles I resea ...Read More...

The Skin Revolution Lazarus Fortifying Serum

    by Dennis

I feel as though my reviews have been negative lately, but that comes with the truth sometimes, and I will always remain faithful to the policy of this site to review products with honesty and integrity. Anyway, the negative reviews end here. I really like The Skin Revolution Lazarus Fortifying Serum ($60). Really quite a bit, actually.

Lazarus is all about plant stem cell technology. I had previously been using Andalou Organics Fruit Stem Cell Serum ($24.95). But honestly, even though I have read some reviews on ...Read More...

Sweetsation for Men Smoothing Facial Scrub

As far as exfoliating scrubs go (and admittedly I do not use a lot), Sweetsation for Men Smoothing Facial Scrub ($22) is a winner. Years ago (I'm 41 now), I abandoned physical exfoliants in favor of chemical exfoliants after reading an article about them. What turned me off, if I remember correctly, is that physical exfoliants could actually tear and damage skin.

However, after looking over the Sweetsation facial scrub, ingredients such as caviar and ...Read More...

Mirai Skin Awakening Mask Set - reviewed and rejected

When Truth In Aging asked me if I wanted to test Mirai's Skin Awakening Mask Set ($40), I thought that it looked so crazy I had to give it a whirl! It turned out to be crazier than I imagined. The idea behind the system is you cleanse, apply Mirai's Skin Awakening Essence, then wet, stretch, and apply Mirai's cotton sheets that are "100% natural cotton, grown in Ehime, Japan, renown for the purity of its waters, and certified in Japan for baby use."

They are meant to "lock in" the Natural Moisturizing Factor that Mirai claims its potion contains. More so than applyi ...Read More...

    Senté Dermal Repair Cream

It is easy for me to know when I really like a new product while testing it. First, I start to worry about running out and I will start rationing it. Second I start trying to convince myself that it's worth it to actually purchase, no matter the price. Sadly I have had neither of those feelings with the Senté Dermal Repair Cream ($169.95) I am testing.

Senté is a "science based" beauty line. Their flagship product is their Dermal Repair Cream and their signature ingredient is Glycoproteins. I was happy to see the short list of ingredients on their webs ...Read More...
