Location: Philadelphia, PA

Skin Type: Combination

Skin Concerns: Uneven skin tone, acne scarring and hyperpigmentation, dryness

About to celebrate my first year post-undergrad, I am still navigating the waters of trying to make a living as a contract worker, mostly in the film and theatre industries, though I also work in animal rescue and pet care. My schedule can be demanding, mentally and physically, and I'm sometimes faced with odd sleep patterns to get the job done. It's important to me that I keep my skin and hair as healthy as possible with the products I'm using because it's often somewhat abused by my lifestyle, and as someone in the performance industry, starting aging prevention early could be important to my career, not just my ego. While a lot of the content on Truth In Aging is geared towards patrons from a different generation (and tax bracket) it's still my go-to source for the most accurate, unbiased skinformation.

Dr. Dennis Gross Clarifying Colloidal Sulfur Mask

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare is quickly becoming one of my favorite skin care brands. After becoming enamored with a Ferulic + Retinol Triple Correction Eye Serum ($68 in the shop) sample recently, I had pretty high expectations for the Dr. Dennis Gross Clarifying Colloidal Sulfur Mask ($42 in the shop) and it mostly lived up to them! I’m in ...Read More...

    Hynt Beauty Nocturne Mascara

I'm a 25-year-old occasional makeup wearer, but when I do wear makeup, I have a tendency to run into problems. Maybe it’s because I don’t practice enough, but I feel like there’s so much makeup out there that after wearing it a few hours ends up making me look worse than just going barefaced. Natural mascaras, in my experience, are even more prone to such problems than their conventional counterparts. Hynt Beauty’s Nocturne Mascara ($24) is at the least an improvement on some of it’s natural competitors.

    Hynt says it’s product &ld ...

    SkinOwl Body Oil

Hello fellow TIA devotees, 20-something body oil addict reporting for duty. I was so excited to be offered the chance to try out SkinOwl Body ($59), a body oil for “tired, thirsty skin” that’s designed “to enhance your skin's natural radiance and visibly reduce the appearance of stretch marks, wrinkles, and dark spots.” The directions are fairly standard, massage into damp skin, especially post-shower.

I’ve always been a fan of body oil because I have dry skin, but I don’t like the feel of heavy creams or have the patien ...Read More...

Medik8 Redness Corrector Advanced Neutralising Cream

I’m in my mid-20s and my biggest skin issues are large/blocked pores (but not acne), acne scars I’d like to fade and dryness. I’m very pale, so I always feel like my face looks a bit flushed and pink, which I’m not a fan of. I also get the occasional pimple I wish was less visible, but I don’t wear makeup daily.

I was very excited to hear about Medik8 Redness Corrector Advanced Neutralising Cream ($105 in the shop). I was ho ...Read More...

    LATHER Forbidden Rice Body Scrub

I was excited to be given the opportunity to try LATHER Forbidden Rice Body Scrub ($21) because I have always been a devotee of regular exfoliating but have mostly been a user of daily methods like using exfoliating gloves or exfoliating body wash. I never really searched for (or found) a scrub that managed to secure a permanent place in my regimen. The same can be said of this scrub — It hasn’t inspired in me an overwhelming need to have a scrub on hand, but it’s been a nice extra luxury while it was around.

I'm in my late 20s and have dry skin, s ...Read More...
