Age: 50-ish

Location: The South

Skin Type: Oily

Skin Concerns: Wrinkles, maintaining skin firmness

My philosophy has always been look your best to be your best. I have always taken reasonably good care of my skin, and I can now see it has paid off as I am often told I don't look my age. Those compliments have encouraged me to continue to seek the best skin care. With today's ever increasing science and technology in skin care, it really is possible to look better longer. And after all, who says guys shouldn't strive to look their best, too?

MitoQ Cellular Radiance Protecting Serum AM

The heat and humidity already reign across the south. For me this not only means that it’s time to change to a lighter wardrobe, but also a bit of a change in my skin care routine. I have oily skin, although I am in my 50s, and the degree of oiliness varies with the season, with sultry summer days being the worst. My challenge is to find lighter skin care products for the summer that won’t clog pores and create blemishes while still providing the anti-aging benefits that I need year-round.

I believe I have found my answer in the new ...Read More...

    Deciem NIOD Flavanone Mud

Although I’ve never been to a spa (and yes, a day of pampering is somewhere on my bucket list), I do know masks promising various results reign among the available treatments. Though certainly not as spa-indulgent, I’ve given many different mud and clay masks a try at home over the years and found myself to be mostly indifferent to them. Their promises of drying up oily skin and lifting impurities appealed to me as I have dealt with oily and problem skin most of my life. But with a thick and cool texture, as the layer dried and cracked over 15 to 30 minutes, I felt more like I h ...Read More...

Sciote Peptide + Defense Firming Youth Serum

For over a year, my eye cream of choice has been Sciote Peptide + Defense Firming Eye Crème ($70 in the shop), and it has performed exceptionally well , hydrating,  smoothing the lines around my eyes and even firming up the skin a bit. Since this has worked so well, I had wanted to try out something else from the Sciote line and luckily TIA provided me the opportunity to test the Sciote Peptide + Defense Fi ...Read More...

    Simplicite Rosewood Face Oil

Testing products is always an exciting roll of the dice that begins with one question: Will it work for me?  My answer usually comes after four weeks use and daily notes, beginning with the initial condition of my skin, exactly how I use the product and any changes I see — good or bad — with each progressive day.  I’d like to share a few of those notes with you to better illustrate my experience with Simplicite Rosewood Face Oil ($43.20), but first a little about its ingredients.

This product contains a combination of seven plant oi ...Read More...

LiftLab Purify + Clarify Daily Cleanser, Detox Mask & Gentle Exfoliant

Cleaning your face. Such a simple process that requires little thought, right? When my skin went crazy producing excess oil and acne in my teens, I thought the answer was scrubbing my face clean as many times a day as possible. What to use depended on who I talked to, with advice ranging from pine tar soaps to those made with sulfur and I tried them all (although the lingering sulfurous odor made that remedy short-lived). I mistakenly thought I needed to strip and dry out my skin as much as possible. Years later although acne was a thing of the past, my oily (sometimes congested) skin remai ...Read More...
